Revolutionary in its simplicity, Gerrit Rietveld’s Crate Collection, originally designed in 1934, is back in production thanks to a special collaboration between Rietveld Originals and HAY. The Crate Dining Chair is true to the Dutch architect’s original design, with low proportions, a gently sloping back and seat, and supportive armrests. Its construction also reflects Rietveld’s original intent, which was to minimize production costs and optimize the assembly process. The chair fits easily around the Crate Outdoor Dining Table (sold separately), or use as a standalone seat in a sunny spot. Add a removable seat cushion (sold separately) for extra comfort. Made in China.

Born in 1888, Dutch architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld is one of the most influential figures of the De Stijl art movement. His avant-garde approach focused on adapting design to the ways people lived their lives, always seeking harmony between architecture and interior. Many of Rietveld’s pieces are modern icons, featuring in the permanent collections of museums across the world.
